Warmth, texture, and movement in a modern workplace

At Surfacing Solution, one of the things we enjoy most is seeing how architects and designers bring tambour to life in real spaces. This project spotlight features the Insight Global Campus in Atlanta, designed by ASD | SKY.

Natural wood tambour flows through reception areas, collaborative lounges, and bar fronts — creating a consistent and contemporary design language across the entire campus.

The result is a workplace that feels warm and human-scaled, a deliberate counterpoint to the hard surfaces and industrial ceilings that define the rest of the space.

One of the standout details in this project — and a personal favorite — is found in the central bar area. Rather than using a single profile across the bar front, the designers layered two tambour profiles: 693 and 438, both in White Oak, creating a two-level offset effect where the larger slats sit above a complementary field of smaller tambour.

The result creates natural depth and a shadow line that shifts subtly as light moves through the space — transforming a surface into something that lives and breathes with the day.

How Mixed Profiles Guide Movement

As you move through the campus, different tambour profiles and species help define the character of each space. White Oak profiles establish a warm, welcoming feel in the reception areas, while Walnut creates a slightly richer, more intimate atmosphere elsewhere.

This mix allowed tambour to be used across a wide range of applications — from curved reception desks to architectural feature walls and seating millwork — creating campus-wide consistency without repeating the exact same look everywhere.

Hand-laid & assembled in Chaska, Minnesota

Our team hand-lays every tambour slat to create each panel, carefully inspecting and positioning every piece to ensure the quality and attention to detail that sets Surfacing Solution apart.

Every panel that left our facility for this project was sorted by color and grain, matched for consistency, and assembled by the same hands that have been doing this work for decades.

Projects like this are a great example of the creative possibilities tambour can bring to a space when thoughtful design and natural materials come together.
